When I retired from my professional life as a clinical social worker I was eager to learn to express myself visually rather than verbally. Art quilting offers me this creative avenue, and I've found every aspect of this work to be filled with joy, excitement, and opportunities for learning. As I did when I was a therapist, I find myself exploring themes of human communication, our hopes to be seen and understood, and the many ways in which we hide from each other. This piece, "Speaking in Code," is an exploration of the roadblocks to successful communication we unconsciously erect.
