When my son started drawing as a toddler, I observed how meticulously he placed his scribbly lines. I was inspired to turn those drawings of his into quilts. Play of Lines VIII is a very literal textile interpretation of one of his drawings that has been enlarged (the original measures about four inches square). The series turned into a long and ongoing exploration of the interaction of lines and color in their respective contexts, and went well beyond a child’s drawings.
