"Not Enough Gray, But Plenty of Red" explores the opposites surrounding us—all black or white, with few nuances of gray or compromise. The red poppies are in memory of the millions sacrificed because of opposing views—the fascism of World War II, people protesting racism, and now Americans murdered when politicians can’t get past opposition to rein in assault weapons. I hope my work inspires the viewer to seek the middle ground of compromise, to forge a future where opposite views truly attract civil discourse.
