This piece is an homage to Henri Matisse and the fabulous color and draped fabrics in his paintings. "The Striped Dress" painted in 1937 provided structure and inspiration. Matisse's paintings are easily translated to quilts, and encourage one to go large, go bold, go colorful. I look forward to doing a few more of these. This began with a guild challenge to translate a master painting into fabric.
Materials
Cotton fabric, acrylic paint.
Techniques
Raw edge applique with fusible web, painted accents. The border is finished with the "pillowcase" method, but in the shape of a fancy gilt frame. The frame is painted with metallic gold paint to give it a dimensional look.
