There's a lone cottonwood standing in my open field—a symbol of resilience, presence, and quiet beauty. Its bright colors reveal the life and energy that persist even when it's alone, while the empty surroundings underscore its strength and uniqueness. My grandmother buried her stillborn infant beneath a similar cottonwood tree during the Dust Bowl in Oklahoma.
