I use original woodcuts to create marks that become my "voice" and communicate my surroundings in the forest in Northern Arizona. My woodcuts are spontaneous reactions to what I see on long walks. The printing is comprised of single and multiple layers of marks. I use Japanese wood and do all the cutting and printing by hand as an homage to the artists who leave their mark in every line they print and stitch.
Materials
Silk Shantung, Altered dyes for printing. Japanese Shina wood for woodcuts.Perle Cotton for hand quilting.
Techniques
Hand Dyed Silk. Hand inked and printed with woodcuts and bamboo sticks. Whole cloth that was hand quilted.
