The story of Icarus is the story of man’s first flight: Daedalus and Icarus don wax and feather wings and fly. The experience is overwhelming for Icarus, and enraptured by the beauty of flight, he flies too close to the sun. It is therefore also a story of the overwhelming thrill of beauty and of hubris.

In Icarus II I considered the pain of having achieved the magnificence of being aloft and knowing it is, literally, going up in flames. His heart would have been in flames even as his wing tips fell away in chars and ashes.
