I was already an established artist when I decided to make a quilted wall hanging. Just a fascination with fabric. Even with the difficulties of learning to sew combined with trying to express my thoughts and imagery, I was hooked.
My first years 1993-1995, were spent piecing geometric type quilts. By 1996 I was ready to really explore this medium. I wanted to work narratively but felt that I needed to reacquaint myself with human anatomy. I started with a series of female nudes.
I had felt limited by standard piecing and discovered a method of rough edge applique that better suited my imagery. I used mostly printed fabrics to achieve shading and surface detail. Combining that with hand cutting intricate shapes is what became my signature style.
