Based on a photo of my Grandfather, as he walked through the small village of San Martin de Laspra, Asturias, Spain where he had once been mayor. Uprooted by the Spanish Civil War, he spent many years in hiding. After the war he was able to escape the country and come to the US, obtaining political asylum. He became a US citizen and remained in the country until his retirement. After the death of my Grandmother, he returned to Spain where he lived out his life.
