In January 2019, the dam supporting one of the biggest breeding colonies of flamingoes in South Africa reached dangerously low water levels because of pollution. 2000 chicks, abandoned by their parents, were rescued. I made this quilt as a tribute to these beautiful, graceful birds whose biggest threat is mankind.
Materials
Hand-painted, hand-dyed, and commercial cottons.
Techniques
Pieced, raw-edge appliquéd, free motion quilted and embroidered.
