My work is tied to a commitment to personal deepening, expression and exploration of our collective community. I strive to create a dialogue, a feedback loop, between myself and the cloth, back and forth, as the piece develops. Meaning is generated, layers are produced through: paint, dye, and the layering of cloth over cloth, such as a skirt that hangs free of the background. The forms that have emerged, so far include totemic figures and marks that are universal throughout many cultures. "Forest Spirit" was done with the Pacific Northwest First Nation Peoples in mind.
Materials
Kona and Pima cottons
Techniques
Textile paint printed on cloth with original Thermofax screen designs; original hand-dyed fabric; beads in center of figure.
