Flame

This work is mainly made with materials that evoke images of Japan, such as meisen, satin and washi paper. I didn't choose them with a Japanese feel in mind, but perhaps it's because I'm Japanese that I feel comfortable with them. This work started by weaving the red of meisen into a black-based washi paper. The contrast between the vivid red of the meisen and the shiny black of the satin, and the movement added by the stitching and linen fibers, express a burning flame.
