Usually I do not work in such an abstract manner, but this is one of those quilts that just sort of evolved. We had been out west visiting our son in Colorado and I had several pictures of waterfalls spilling out of the mountainous terrain; which is what originally inspired this piece. I had the tree fabric with the black background in my stash and I really wanted to use it. So I cut a piece to be the start of the woods, I added the smaller trees and then pulled fabrics from my stash of colors, textures and patterns that I liked together. I also tried some new techniques when making this quilt such as piecing the diamond shapes. Cry Me a River is the finished result of breaking away from my usual pictorial quilting style and being open minded to new possibilities in design. I'm proud to say it won a ribbon in 2012 at Houston in the Art/Naturescape category. This is also one of the few quilts I have kept and have hanging in my home.
