Even in rural northern California, microplastic contamination is a threat to the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land we grow our food on. We cannot see these particles but they are everywhere, shedding from our synthetic clothing, furniture, cosmetics, packaging, and equipment.

I chose to depict three scenes from the place where I live, using nothing but plastic bags collected from my own trash bin. I also quilted excerpts from published papers about the detrimental effects of plastic on humans and our environment. Consumers have a choice. Just one household can keep a huge quantity of plastic out of landfills annually. And what if we all did that?
