Discard Studies & Value in Art, Craft, & Design
Friday 04/30/27: 11:15am (Zoo Auditorium)
“AndyT” Thompson's creative interests align with the discourse of Discard Studies and focuses on elevating materials, subjects, and locations that get set aside or discarded in the day-to-day churn of commerce and politics in the US, Michigan, and Detroit. Thompson will present on his own work as well as highlighting local, national, & international artists & designers who work with recycled, repurposed, and found object art that intersect with materials & methodologies common to fibers and craft practices. How do artists challenge society's notions of value while at the same time making beautiful and thoughtful work?
