Textile art and modern quilting serve as my primary language for creative and emotional expression. Based in Portland, Maine, with over 25 years of sewing experience, my practice centers on layered textiles and machine stitching, surface design, and the tactile exploration of fabric. I am deeply drawn to the quiet, meditative nature of textile making and fabric's unique capacity to carry memory, emotion, and movement. Through my work, I explore recurring themes of nature, geometry, and human experience, striving to experiment with techniques pushing beyond tradition.
My art is recognized for animals, intimate eyes, and now traditional patterns, and imagery. To build depth, dimension, and visual texture, I frequently integrate surface painting techniques using acrylics and Inktense directly alongside detailed machine stitching. This interplay between structured geometry, fluid color application, and tactile medium allows me to push the boundaries of quilt making into fine art. Patient practice, continuous experimentation, and an openness to creative discovery shape my evolving artistic voice.
Beyond my studio practice, I teach sewing and textile skills at Factory 3, a makerspace in Portland. As an active member of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) and the Maine Crafts Association, I am a dedicated advocate for advancing the fiber art movement. I believe that sewing and quilting are powerful forms of personal storytelling and artistic connection. Collaborating with makers of all experience levels reinforces my commitment to sharing knowledge and fostering encouraging spaces for artistic exploration.
