My claim to fame is that I consider myself a woman of serenity, always seeking simplicity, who was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma. I have always known and shared my truly treasured parents and siblings, superb grandparents, a fun-loving husband, and three fantastic grandchildren who gave me the grandest of grandkids!
It was in 1977 that I laid claim to a sewing room and subsequently attempted to make a quilt from my father’s neck ties. Unknowingly, the pattern was for an advanced beginner, and my mother helped me finish an 18” pillow! I found peace and comfort in taking the small, tedious pieces of silk and forming them into something beautiful!
My life as a quilter has been magical as I have moved from traditional piecing techniques to the joyful task of quiltin’ beautifully bold, culturally rich color patterns that often tell a life story. My passion for fabric allows me to give voice to the hardships and triumphs of humankind. When I was a teen of the turbulent 1960-70’s, I became the intentional rule-breaker who hoped to change some part of American society in some way. In the years leading up and into retirement, I have become the quilt-maker willing to break normal quiltin’ rules and color combinations in order to be innovative. My hope is for the quilted artistic textile that I stitch to literally speak out loud, to seek change and conversation, and to visually impact the America in which I live. It is from my home-base that I quilt to share colorful, beautiful, and even controversial ideas to the broader community in today's turbulent yet brilliant state of being.
I peacefully piece and quilt almost every day. I am blessed to share my quilt life with men and women that have yielded lifelong, friendships. Quiltin’ has become an important network that positively touches lives far and wide as I give special topic quilt lectures, as well as making charitable quilts for others.
