Bio

I am a fibre and mixed media artist, surface designer, teacher, and lecturer whose work is rooted in layers, texture, and a deep connection to history. My creative practice blends traditional and contemporary surface design techniques, and in recent years has increasingly incorporated hand stitching as a way to slow down, observe, and engage more deeply with material, process, and time.

Much of my work explores the impact of history on our culture today. In a world that values speed, perfection, and constant novelty, I am drawn to the marks left behind by time — weathered walls, crumbling facades, worn surfaces, and the quiet stories embedded in old buildings and artifacts. These elements speak to resilience, memory, and human presence. Through layered construction, surface manipulation, and contemplative hand-stitched marks, I translate these textures and narratives into tactile textile works that feel both timeless and contemporary.

My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and has received numerous awards, including an Honorable Mention at the Festival of Quilts in the UK, multiple awards at Quilt Canada, and top honours at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, where I received 1st Prize in Abstract (2017) and 3rd Prize in Abstract (2019). In 2019, I was named Quilter of Distinction at the Heritage Park Festival of Quilts.

Alongside my studio practice, teaching and writing are central to my work. I am a regular contributor to Quilting Arts Magazine and A Needle Pulling Thread, and I have appeared on Quilting Arts TV and The Quilt Show. In my teaching, I emphasize process, experimentation, and material exploration, encouraging students to build confidence, curiosity, and a personal visual language through thoughtful making.
