The Virtual Competition 2020 is a new initiative launched by the organisers of The Festival of Quilts.
Given that our normal quilt competition can’t go ahead this year, we didn’t want you to miss out so we’re offering you the chance to enter the competitions in an online format.
Just like our standard FoQ competitions, there are 12 categories to choose from. See the list of categories here with examples of previous winners.
Due to the current social distancing measures, judging will take place remotely from photographs. Our judging panel will shortlist approximately ten quilts in each category who will be shortlisted to feature on www.thefestivalofquilts.com and also in a brand new, one-off Festival of Quilts magazine being printed in September 2020.
One of the shortlisted quilts in each category will win a prize of £500 and go on to be hung at The Knitting & Stitching Shows in London and Harrogate in the autumn.
If that’s not enough to tempt you, the Handi Quilter Best in Competition quilt will be awarded £1500!
There’s never been a better time to make a quilt and now you have even more incentive. The Festival of Quilts has hosted Europe’s largest quilt competition for 17 years and is usually one of the biggest show attractions of the show, with over 800 entries.
We can’t run the show this year but we’re not going to let that get in the way.
