Quiltfolk has the honor of travelling the country to tell the stories behind the stitches. State by state, issue by issue, our hope is to bring readers a snapshot of the fascinating people who make, tend to, or simply love the quilts in their lives and unique communities.

Since our journey began in 2016, we have discovered two things are always true: 1) there are no two people or quilts alike; and 2) no matter which state we’re in, no matter who we interview, there is one powerful theme that runs through it all: Family.

Many of us making quilts today learned our skills from a family member. Family quilts serve as fabric family trees, bearing the names, dates, and places of our relatives. Family quilts cover us when we are ill, carry our stories, and serve as material evidence that “we were here.”

We are excited to announce that the 16th issue of Quiltfolk magazine will explore the theme of Family — and we’re taking a break from the road to do it right. This is where you come in.

For the first time ever, Quiltfolk is soliciting reader submissions. We want your true, first-person stories in words and pictures.  We’ll then have the pleasure of publishing a few of those stories and images with our community of passionate quilters from around the world.
