My parents ventured forth from other countries, meeting years later in Detroit, Michigan. They sought a new future and were welcomed. A first generation American, I have continued in this spirit, now living halfway around the world.
In this artwork, two men struggle to maintain their balance, hurrying away from danger and toward the unknown. A broken woman stumbles in exhaustion. A nursing mother cradles her child. Whether her head cover is for religious observance or to protect her from the elements matters not. She is focused on her baby. The rabbit and the crow whirl and dance. It is the frenetic Dance of Life and Death.
