I went on a long walk in the local oak woodlands with a friend who knew a lot about the ecology of the area, and I was particularly captivated by an ancient oak tree. There wasn’t much left of the tree, but the woodpeckers had turned its rotting trunk into an acorn granary, ensuring that life would continue in its inevitable cycle. It just had to become a quilt.
