Blue Earth

“It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn’t feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.” -Neil Amstrong. Blue is rarely seen in nature under the blue sky that connects us all. But if the world was monochromatic, would a blue earth foster calm, thoughtful words that invite peace and deeper consideration of what it means to share a planet together? In this quilt, I contrast the vastness of the landscape with the smallness of an individual. He seems alone, but we are all watching and walking with him. None of us are alone on this earth.
