This quilt was made for an exhibition themed "Making Waves". Although the theme calls for interesting metaphorical interpretations, I opted for literally making a wave with ruffles of chameleon organza, netting, synthetic fabric and oakshott cotton. The multiple layers create 3D texture, depth and partial transparency of the sea water.
Materials
Cotton fabrics and batting, synthetic fabric, organza, netting, cotton and synthetic threads
Techniques
Machine appliqué on simple pieced background, free motion quilted with the ruffles stitched on top, 3D details in the sail and a seagull
