Textile Talk: Layered & Stitched: 50 Years of Innovative Art

Conversations with the Artists

Layered & Stitched: 50 Years of Innovative Art is a gorgeous showcase of 50 art quilts by renowned master artists. Seminal works show the evolution of the art quilt from the earliest pioneers creating during the 1960s through to today’s artists experimenting with new forms, new materials, and new digital technologies. Trace the development of this exciting art form as it developed from isolated makers, primarily in Ohio and California, into an international movement involving thousands of artists spanning the globe. In this Textile Talk, we'll be hearing from exhibiting artists Valerie Goodwin, Michael James, and Katie Pasquini Masopust about their work, process, and inspiration.

About the Artists

Valerie S. Goodwin is a mixed media fiber artist and architect whose works of fine art
are included in museum and private collections. Most of her work is inspired by a love of
aerial views of landscapes and cities.

Michael James lives and maintains a studio in Lincoln, Nebraska. His textile art is included in the collections of the Museum of Arts & Design in NYC, the Baltimore Art Museum, the Racine Art Museum, the Newark Museum, the Mint Museum, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Shelburne Museum, and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum (DC), among others. His work is represented exclusively by Modern Arts Midtown in Omaha, Nebraska.
For nearly 40 years Katie Pasquini Masopust has produced high quality contemporary art quilts that have been coveted and collected by a broad range of admirers. From her early beginnings as a painter dabbling in traditional quilt making, her work has evolved from structured Mandalas and mind-blowing dimensional pieces to very painterly landscapes and abstractions executed with the finest fabrics and most creative stitching techniques.
