Exploration and experimentation with machine embroidery to enrich your art quilts!
Whether you have been embellishing your art quilts with machine embroidery for a while or want to try it for the first time, this group is the place to be! Join us as we share and learn from each other’s experimentations with and exploration of machine embroidery in art quilting. Each month, we will focus on one or two examples of possibilities in using our machines to inspire beginner and advanced users to embellish and create art. Presentations are by all our members, and sometimes special guest artists, followed by a group discussion on the successes, challenges, and lessons learned. Everyone participates in making our Special Interest Group a success for all.

Jayni Bloch - Moderator
Jayni lives in Ottawa, Canada, with her husband, Gerald, and black cat Puma. Jayni’s private psychology practice turned into a fiber art studio when she retired after 40 years as a psychologist to follow her heart as a full-time Fiber Artist in December 2021. She includes her love for photography, painting, and technology, in her fiber art. Jayni ran inspirational and creativity groups for most of her career. She believes the power of creativity is an essential ingredient in healing and general mental health. Jayni’s art-quilt Listening has been accepted in the 2022 Sacred Threads exhibition, and her piece Earth Cycles was one of 32 pieces selected by juror Carol Sauvion for SAQA's exhibition at SOFA Chicago 2022.
Karen Kuranda- Zoom/Facebook Technical Liaison
I have been surrounded by all kinds of textiles and encouraged to have truly creative ideas all my life as several generations in my family have been leading the innovation of different technologies in the textile industry. I like to express many of my ideas through my love of mathematics, graphics and computer technologies. Quilting has become a passion for me because of the complex puzzle of ‘fitting’ everything together. I also really enjoy doing the research needed to create a quilt that is inspired by history. One of my favorite pieces was accepted in 2020 to be included in a centennial Suffrage Quilt exhibit that toured nationwide for 2.5 years. My interests in quilting currently lean towards designing and printing my own fabrics, computer graphics, detailed original digital thread painting, using digital cutting machines, using machine embroidery for all kinds of different techniques in quilting - and especially combining everything together in unique ways to create quilts that tell a story.
