SAQA Virtual Gallery Program
Calling all artists and curators!
Then we have a new program for you!
In April 2020, when our new website goes live, SAQA will open its Virtual Gallery Program. We will sponsor eight to ten online exhibits each year in this new virtual gallery. One or two of these will be selected by a hired juror, and we will be looking for volunteer curators to organize the rest.
Unlike a brick-and-mortar venue, an on-line gallery requires images only. It has no space or shipping considerations---and far fewer limitations on the kinds of work that can be shown.
The program will kick off with two exhibits. The first, called “No Limits,” will be posted on SAQA’s new website when it launches in April. Pieces in this exhibit will highlight the diverse kinds of work we will be able to showcase with the virtual program. This introductory show will be selected by SAQA’s Virtual Gallery Subcommittee, and the call-for-entry period is February 1-29.
The second online exhibit, entitled “On The Edge” and juried by Petra Fallaux, will examine the related ideas of “the cutting edge” and “augmented reality.” The entry period for this show is April 1-30. The show will open on the website on June 1.
Both exhibits are limited to SAQA members, and neither has a fee for entry. Later this year we will introduce an application process for volunteers to curate additional online exhibitions.
Keep your eyes open---on whichever of our platforms you frequent---for news and information about all of these opportunities. The virtual gallery will provide one more way for members to show their own work and organize the kind of exhibits they want to see.
