Synergy: Below the Surface II

Non-SAQA
Exhibition

SYNERGY: Below the Surface II at the University of Rhode Island’s Providence Campus Gallery  joins together the original  Synergy Project Below the Surface artworks with the new Below the Surface II.  The original exhibition, Below the Surface, is a collaboration between Art League RI (ALRI) and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) that brought together artists and scientists to create unique works of art based in science.  The original Synergy Project has continued to evolve to the present.  Below the Surface II, the newest exhibition in the project is a juried exhibition made up of work by artists from around the country inspired by ideas seen in the original exhibition at the Falmouth Art Center.  The combined exhibitions demonstrate what we know about the ocean and how we are still making discoveries in its vast landscape. The ocean is a constant in our everyday lives and there are many aspects of it that can be explored through art. What is the ocean environment like, how does the ocean interact with the atmosphere, ocean sciences, and how is the ocean affected by human impact?  The mission of these exhibitions is to bring awareness to the ocean’s impact on the earth and the importance of protecting it.
