Exhibition

Ludmila Aristova is an internationally recognized fiber artist best known for her award-winning fine-art quilted and mixed media works. Both her new works from Serenity series and earlier abstract and selected works from Cityscapes series will be on display.

Ludmila employs both traditional and innovative fabric manipulations techniques, including hand painting, piecing, pleating, applique, bead embroidery, folding, tucking and unraveling, as well as hand and machine quilting to explore the relationship between light and color. She is interested to see how different fabrics behave and the emotional feelings that can be expressed. But her hallmark is texture, both the visual texture of patterning and the physical texture of stitched, manipulated fabric. When working on an abstract piece, her creative concept is translated directly into the fabric without a preliminary sketch and during the creative process the original idea may change somewhat or entirely. Working on her Cityscapes quilts, she always begins with a sketch, which may change slightly as she works, and then makes her color selections. While the Cityscapes quilts are not intended to be a photographic resemblance, she typically starts with a recognizable New York City building and takes a creative license to complete the overall
sky scape.
