Eligibility: All US residents

This program is designed to host professional artists working at a high level in their field. We will follow an artist-focused and open-ended model that prioritizes on-site research and exploration in the interest of informing public interactions and understanding. While some visitor contact and outreach will be required, the majority of the artists’ time while on-site will be spent as they best see fit. We hope that the work that comes from this freedom will—through future on- and off-site exhibits, publications, and presentations—advance our fundamental connection with Grand Canyon. It is in this capacity that artists are invited to come and to work.

While no specific requirements will be placed on the content or direction of the artists' proposals, applicants must have an idea of direction, topic, and the project they will work on while during their residency when they apply. Projects may evolve and change during their residency as long as the new direction also has relevance to the canyon or its communities and meets all other program requirements and NPS guidelines. While some art forms are intuitively adaptable to this type of residency program, others will have to interpret their vision to adapt to the program and site constraints.
