The retreat is for SAQA members worldwide who are here to see the two exhibits, Shifting Tides and Local Color: Work by Hawaii SAQA Ohana. The exhibits will be viewable weekdays in October starting on the 8th when we will have our opening reception from 1-6 PM. SAQA members are welcome to a casual get together that evening following the reception.

There will be organized activities in the week leading up to and after the reception. We will be organizing an island tour that will include several quilt and fabric shops, the Hawaii Quilt Museum, a few waterfalls, a walk in the rainforest, and along the beach. There will be another day for a tour of the Hawaii Botanical Garden, and the Akaka falls bamboo forest. Another day for breakfast and tour at Phyllis' studio and a day at Wailea Bay (Hapuna) Beach. Details are still being worked out but there will be an optional class at Phyllis' studio, a studio tour in Kona, a visit to tidepools and honu viewing.

Self guided tours for small groups to visit Volcano Park, snorkeling, etc will be arranged as people sign up. We will not be making any air or hotel /housing arrangements but will provide a list for attendees. If enough people sign up to attend, Phyllis might be able to arrange a good deal at a hotel. Renting a car is recommended, although we should be able to arrange carpooling for everyone with people chipping in for gas if a local member offers to shuttle people around. Various venues have entrance fees. Meals will be at restaurants except for breakfast at my studio. We will divide costs of car rentals and there will be a charge for materials at my studio for classes so no one has to pack materials. More class details and specific agenda still in the planning stages. Daily meeting locations to be determined.

Shifting Tides is a 7 region SAQA exhibition at the main gallery at Wailoa Center, Hilo, HI. The Fountain Gallery (downstairs), will have a concurrent Hawaii SAQA regional showcase.
