The artistic process can be a solitary and at times lonely pursuit. Working in isolation in one’s studio is often essential to producing works of art. At the same time, gathering as a community can be invaluable to developing, honing, and ultimately understanding the work at and of our hands. The key is to find the balance between the two.
That sense of balance is at the heart of the Visions Art Museum Critique Group. An oasis community with positive intentions of mutual support, the group meets regularly to share current work and to offer and receive constructive feedback. Comprised of VAM members who are actively working in fiber and textile materials and techniques, the participants support each other in the artistic process. To share one’s work can feel daunting; the VAM Critique Group is a place where artists may practice bravery in personal expression.
The exhibition Collage: Intersections, the Critique Group’s fourth in a decade, underscores the value of collaborative explorations. Works on display reflect individual themes while celebrating the role of community in shaping our personal endeavors.
The Visions Art Museum Critique Group is open to all VAM members who are working artists and would like to share finished works or receive critique of works in progress. The group values its open and positive attitude and active listening, and positive intentions. Members speak from good intentions and artists are free to accept or reject feedback. What’s on the Critique Group table is always nourishing food for thought!Venue Info:
