Quilting in Paper - The Art of Jane Mathews -  Rocky Mountain Quilt Musem  •   Golden, Colorado
October 22, 2018 - January 19, 2019

Quilting in Paper - The Art of Jane Mathews is an exhibit of paper quilts made from recycled paper.

Jane is a multimedia artist who combines and transforms materials into her quilted works. Inspired by her father who taught her to draw and paint and her mother who taught her to sew, Jane combines these skills and her desire to use and reuse materials in new and interesting ways. Working with paper of all mediums, Jane uses her textile studies, Fine Arts background, love of international travel, and inspiration gleamed from her local environment to create paper quilts that show printer paper, junk mail, magazines, and other paper in colorful new light. Some of Jane’s quilts resemble mosque floor designs and prayer carpets, while others use thin dressmakers pattern paper as layers. Chocolate candy wrappers and paper from China and India bring shine and color to the pieces, where no two are the same. This is an inspirational show for all quilters and multimedia artists alike.

Artist talk: January 13, 2019 from 2 - 4pm
