November 29, 2018 - March 17, 2019
Please join us in the Pgh HandMade Hearts initiative started by Barb Grossman, festival organizer, and her family.
On October 27, 2018, worshipers at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA, were attacked in a senseless act of hatred. In response, the Grossman family, started the Pgh HandMade Hearts campaign to make and place handmade hearts in public places as vivid reminders of the power of kindness.
Our mission is to foster compassion for those impacted by acts of violence and hatred, as well as to discourage future acts of this nature.
We will be supplying a variety of materials with instructions at the festival, tagging them with positive messages and asking attendees to take a few with them to put in places such as: libraries, lobbies, churches, mosques, synagogues, community centers, senior centers, auditoriums, at a bus stop, in a supermarket (among the apples or mangos) (on the cereal shelf), at the park, playground, on a hiking trail, etc.
Barbara Grossman has appeared at the Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse with materials for heart making and with ready made hearts for the taking. She is scheduled to go to additional local stores and with guilds, as well as with girl scout troops for heart making (dates available upon request)
The hearts can be hand stitched, machine stitched, embroidered, knitted, crocheted, made from wood, clay, etc., approx 2- 2 1/2 inches in size.
Hearts can be made in advance and brought to the event. People have been asked to make hearts with their guilds, groups or individually. There are other drop off sites in various states - please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 304-698-3896 for more information.Venue Info:
