Artist Statement
Melani was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She earned her Secondary Education degree in Biology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She lives in Cooper City, Florida
Melani has been a full time studio artist for twenty-six years. Her Earth Air Water series concentrates on plants and animals and especially endangered species. Her biology background enables her to render realistic plants and animals in fiber. Many of her works are three-dimensional. She uses fabric, hand dyed material, yarn, threads, wool roving paint and felted fiber to create her art.
Her most recent series is political art where crows deliver her messages. Her political art is commentary on social injustices and issues of the day.
Melani has exhibited nationally and internationally in museums ,galleries and quilt exhibits. Her work traveled in "Piecing Together A Changing Planet" an exhibit which traveled through 12 national Parks in the U.S. She is an awarded and published artist.
