Much of the American Southwest's landscape was created by volcanic activity, specifically magma bubbling from the earth's core. From Ship Rock in New Mexico to the currently active, although asleep, volcano in Dotsero, Colorado, these icons are an integral and widespread part of the landscape. The region's thousands of rock formations, mounds, and mountains are sculpted from Earth's original fire.
