It was fun to take a piece of silk I dyed years ago and let myself experiment with some of the options that presented themselves, one step after the other, evolving and revolving like the classic spiral metaphor of how decisions are made--based on what came before. My small printed spirals covered the static rectangular grid in the background; they suggested the larger spiral in organza appliqué, which in turn suggested emphasizing the grid with bold hand stitches.
