Mystic Currents

Oceania is a mystical part of the world to many of us. North American landlubbers (like me) imagine these distant lands richly adorned in exotic plant life and swirling in wild ocean currents. This quilt’s motion-filled landscape, suffused with abstracted flowers and curious plant forms, tells the story of our fascination with Oceania’s dynamic beauty and eternal mystery. I made the quilt soon after a first amazing trip to Hawaii.
Materials
Artist’s own shibori and solid handdyes, batik cottons, commercial prints, silks and sheers, fusible web, polyester batting, and varied threads, including couched perle cotton.
