Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde Interior
Visiting our place of worship rejuvenates our spiritual self and keeps us focused on all that is good and important in our lives. The interior of the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde in the city of Marseille, France is a visual feast. In the spring of 2015 I had the opportunity to tour this fabulous cathedral and was enthralled by the swirl of archways and colors achieved through the stonework. I felt as if I was surrounded by a patchwork quilt made of marble. This view I captured of the interior inspired me to create this piece as a reminder of my visit.
Custom designed cotton fabric, interfacing, fusible web, batting, thread, and colored pencils.
I edited my photo in Photoshop by cropping, giving it a 'painterly' look, and enhancing colors. I printed it to fabric and free motion stitched.
