Our earth is constantly changing, re-making itself. Earthquakes break apart layers and cause upheavals, while volcanic eruptions can augment or eliminate existing land. Sedimentation occurs as weather events wear down our planet's surface. African Jazz is an imagined cross-section of the continent of Africa, combining African fabrics with the artist's hand-dyes in the colors of Africa's savannas, grasslands, mountains and plains.
Materials
Cotton prints, primarily purchased in Africa, combined with hand-dyed cotton fabrics created by the artist. Cotton batting and backing.
Techniques
Improvisational piecing by machine, machine quilting.
