Vivien approaches art from multiple perspectives, including as a creator and educator. Creatively, Vivien is an artist, writer, and photographer whose words and works have been published in books such as 500 Art Quilts and magazines such as Quilting Arts Magazine. She's exhibited her art and photography in invitational and juried exhibitions throughout the United States.

As a docent trainer at the New York metro-area Katonah Museum of Art, Vivien has had the opportunity to work with professional curators from the United States and Europe, supporting their curatorial vision with extensive research and parlaying that research into training for the docent corps. She has trained volunteer community members to develop and share personal responses to artworks on display at the museum. And, during tours, Vivien has had the opportunity to engage the public in fascinating exhibition-based conversations about art, on topics as diverse as Matisse drawings curated by Ellsworth Kelly, portrayals of affection in photography, and antique Samurai armor.
