My Maker’s Manifesto

I am a maker—because sewing by hand is a meditation.
I am a maker—because sewing by machine is a meditation.
I am a maker—because I like being in my studio.

I am a maker—because there’s pleasure in it.
I am a maker—because there’s pain in it.

I am a maker—because I doubt I can see the work through to completion.
I am a maker—because I am confident of seeing the work through to completion.

I am a maker—because life is horrible.
I am a maker—because life is wonderful.
I am a maker—because I don’t understand who I am.
I am a maker—because I will never understand who I am.

I am a maker—because it’s a distraction from my grief.
I am a maker—because it helps with healing.

I am a maker—because it connects me with people I care about.
I am a maker—because it connects me with people who care about me.
I am a maker—because I care about art.
I am a maker—because it connects me with people who care about art.

I am a maker—because my work gives me a future.

I am a maker—because I am looking for answers to questions for which I know there are no answers.

I am a maker—because I hope.
