Workshops & Lectures:

Workshops:

Except as noted below, all classes emphasize design and introduce Dena’s own special sewing techniques for machine piecing and machine quilting (sewing machines required).  Classes marked with an asterisk (*) are available online at Quilt University (www.quiltuniversity.com).

Structured Fabrics:  Stripes, Checks, and Plaids*

Build your own multicolored, textured fabric constructions and learn how to design with them to make original works of art.  2 days, all levels.

Designer Pinwheels*

Four-fold rotation of a tessellated right triangle – sounds like a mouthful, but makes interesting quilts! 2 days, intermediate/advanced levels.

Reflections*

Simple symmetries make beautiful art quilts; focus on design and self-critique.  5 days, intermediate/advanced levels.

Problem Solving for Quilters

Design an original art quilt using a simple and easy to learn technique.  Then learn how to construct the design by drawing from a full repertoire of expertise.  5 days, intermediate/advanced levels.

Five Easy Pieces

Design and make an original art quilt from 5 pieces of fabric:  5 pieces, not 5 patches.  A real designer’s challenge!  2 days, intermediate/advanced levels.

Ladders and Crystals*

Move away from the grid, work with mirror imaging and tessellation, and make beautiful, balanced original designs, every one a stunner!  5 days, intermediate/advanced.

Math for Quilters*

Size and draft your own blocks, change to on-point settings, figure yardage and expenses, cost and price your work – everything you need to know to make your own designs!  Theory and practice – no sewing, 2 days, all levels.

*Classes available online at Quilt University(www.quiltuniversity.com).

Lectures:

“An American Art Quilter in Africa” – Autobiographical slide lecture featuring original art quilts and the environment from which they derive.  Combination travelogue and artistic development.  1 Hour
