Painting on Silk: Expressing your Passion

Description:
Silk is a beautiful medium for expressing your passions in a visual
way. We will use a variety of silk painting materials and techniques
such as acid dyes, gutta serti resist, wax and pre-treatment of silk to
achieve results ranging from painterly representations to abstract
patterns. We will also explore the elements of color, line, texture,
space and movement. Your passions will be the source of inspiration and
we'll use the techniques and elements to turn them into a visual
language. There will be slide presentations, demonstrations, design
exercises and group discussions in addition to participants developing
their own expressive work.
Ideas for finishing and display will be addressed.
All levels.
Lectures:
Turning Activism Into Art
1 1/4 hour slide lecture on the what inspires and informs my artwork.
Can be shortened.
Basic Design Principles

1/2 hours of slide lectures (broken down into sections below) on the
basic principles of good design illustrated with works in a variety of
mediums including art quilts.
1 hour slide lecture on Color, Line, and Shape/Form
45 minute lecture on Movement, Rhythm and Texture
45 minute lecture on Composition
Color Inspiration

hour slide lecture about the emotional, anthropological and cultural
meanings of the primary and secondary colors. The slides are images
from my travels to ordinary and exotic lands along with a stream of
consciousness text about the colors. Fun and insightful.
