Fabric Sketches, a 2-Day Workshop, 6 hours per day
Goal of class: to learn to work quickly and intuitively with fabric as your palette and to trust yourself in the creative process. To fully enjoy the class you should have some knowledge of traditional piecing and quilting.
The objective of the Fabric Sketches class is more about process than product. We will focus on techniques of different artists but you will be creating your own work. Working spontaneously (with guidance) you will create a series of “Fabric Sketches.” Some people who take this class end up with a finished product; others just come away with lots of new ideas on how to make future quilts – either way is fine.
Liquid Assets
Perhaps you have been interested in fabric painting, dyeing, or dye painting but have found the process somewhat daunting. Now you can create beautiful fabrics to your own specifications by altering (re-coloring or painting) commercial fabric. You can basically choose any fabric that will provide the design or background for your work. We will then set to work learning many ways to alter, re-color, or create white space for your own artwork.
This class is applicable to traditional and art quilters and is much easier than it looks. Come and play with different paints, resists, bleach pens, and discharge pastes.
A 5 to 6 hour class.
Texture with Threads Advanced Beginner
You can turn any quilt or piece of fabric into a spectacular work of art. In this class we will be playing with threads, tension and stitches to create special effects, texture and surface design. You will be stepping “out of the box” to make your machine perform in ways you previously may not have imagined. Learn to use your machine as you would any other creative tool – use it like a pencil or paint brush to make it work for you. This class is great fun and builds confidence in your ability to play with your machine tension, stitches, needles and threads. Most of the exercises in the class can be accomplished with any machine in good working order that has a straight and zig-zag stitch. You should, however, be proficient in free motion work and you should know how to make adjustments to your bobbin case.
