SAQA held its first benefit auction in 1997. It wasn’t just quilts for sale in this first auction – items included workshops, professional counseling sessions, and even 8 Maine lobsters! Since then, the auction has evolved into an annual event with hundreds of SAQA members coming together to create fun 12″ x 12″ works of art and support the organization. Are you wondering whether you should donate this year? Here’s five great reasons to participate in the 2019 SAQA Benefit Auction!
1. The Benefit Auction helps SAQA raise needed funds for exhibitions and outreach programs.
We currently have fifteen Global Exhibitions traveling the world. These exhibitions expose people from around the world to the beauty and power of this art form. Through our global exhibitions, SAQA artists are securing sales of their work along with opportunities to share their work in additional gallery, art center, and museum settings.
Submitting artwork to the SAQA Benefit Auction allows you to share your work with the entire SAQA community. It is a fun way to introduce yourself to all of our members.
The SAQA website is THE art quilt destination online – around 17,000 viewers visit the website each month. The section of the website visited most often? Artwork.
4. Explore working small.
Benefit Auction Quilts are all 12’’ x 12’’. If you haven’t worked this size before, this is a great opportunity to try it.
Have you been procrastinating about making new work? Use the SAQA Benefit Auction as a motivation to get yourself into the studio. Making one new small piece could jump start an entire new series, but that will only happen if you commit to making the work.
Don’t miss your chance to share your work and capture your piece of this unique art-loving audience. Donations for the 2019 SAQA Benefit Auction must be received by June 1, 2019. Get all the details here. The 2019 auction will take place online from September 13 through October 6.
