SAQA Global Exhibition Highlights
SAQA’s Director of Global Exhibitions William Reker has been building relationships with potential exhibition spaces by sharing our exhibition information at museum conferences.
SAQA’s Global Exhibitions Turmoil and Tranquility were on display in May at the 2018 Australian Quilt Convention in Melbourne, Australia. For more information about these exhibitions, visit the SAQA website.
The SAQA exhibition Modern Inspirations —Art Quilts from the 1970s Through Today opened at the Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, Ohio. The exhibition runs from April 28 – June 17, 2018.
SAQA Global Exhibition Layered Voices opened at the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art in Stillwater, Oklahoma. For more information, including the details about Betty Busby’s artist talk in July, visit the OSU website. The exhibition runs from May 1 – August 18, 2018.
SAQA has two new Global Exhibition calls for entry. Musica! will debut March 2020 at National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky and Upcycle! which debuts at the 2019 International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas.

SAQA JAM member Amy Meissner’s solo exhibition at the Anchorage Museum opened to a massive audience of viewers. The exhibition called Inheritance: Makers. Memory. Myth is on view from May 4 – August 26, 2018.
Central Canada held a wonderful retreat in April. Regional Rep Maggie Vanderweit shared the details along with advice about hosting your regional retreat in this recent blog post.
The Oregon Regional exhibition BRIDGE is currently on show at the Bush Barn Art Center in Salem, Oregon. You can view the show there until June 24, 2018.

Call for Presenters
The SAQA Special Events Committee is seeking presentation proposals for its annual conference in San Jose, CA in 2019.
“We are looking for compelling proposals on a variety of topics, including but not limited to: innovative trends in textile art, the business of art, social media marketing, principles of design and composition, understanding the jury process, getting work into exhibits or galleries, and other topics of interest to the SAQA membership. Presentations may take the form of lectures with visuals or panel discussions with a moderator and usually last between 60-90 minutes.”

Benefit Auction 2018 Update
A big thank you to the members who donated 444 auction quilts to the upcoming 2018 Benefit Auction. That is a new record! SAQA staff is busy formatting and uploading images of all the quilts to our website. We hope you will stop by often to see quilts as we add them.
This year’s auction will take place online from September 14 through October 7. All proceeds help support SAQA’s exhibition and outreach programs.
