What You Can't See on the Computer
page 1b

Digital images don't quite do justice to our members' One Foot Squares.  Here are descriptions (alphabetical by artist) to help you see what the computer can't show you.

Mary Andrews

Pictures and text from an old photo album, transferred to fabric and embellished with cheese cloth, threads, and shells.

Flutter - CoeFlutter
Leslie Coe

This piece is the first in a series of fluttering leaf pieces I am working on. Beads, fresh-water pearls, applied leaves that flutter loosely.

Jamie Fingal

Bright, with fused appliqué with free-motion stitching.

Gardner - Woman of the YearWoman of the Year
Bodil Gardner

Since all my contributions have been women, she must be this year's candidate.Various fabrics, satin – stitched and raw-edge appliqué.

Laird - Do Small Things with Great LoveDo Small Things with Great Love
Linda Laird

The piece was made from bits and pieces from my stash for the 2008 Breaking Traditions exhibit “With One Voice”. I enjoy the serendipity that results from never throwing anything away?

La Flamme - Rooted XIRooted XI
Kristin La Flamme

This homage to home is made of hand-dyed cotton and velvet. Hand and machine stitched. The house is stamped and embellished with a small fabric and bead bundle of love.

Muir - A Chat with RainA Chat with Rain
Alison Muir

Don’t think my chat helped but the rains came on the family farm outside Gilgandra over the Christmas period 2009. Blue/green hand-dyed cotton, hand-stitched.

Puetz - Sunrise – SunsetSunrise – Sunset
Casey Puetz

The simplicity of Asian design in both color and line challenged me to geometrically reference a representational beginning and ending of a sun filled day. Rich colors, batik sky, glass beads.

Schumacher - Little SunflowerLittle Sunflower
Patricia Tiffany Schumacher

This is the last in my series of sunflowers. Quilt features bold sunflowers with large gold and black glass beads in the center.

Sharp - Where I Come FromWhere I Come From
Linda Sharp

This quilt represents “where I come from” on several levels. The target focuses on the Olduvai Gorge. The felted hemispheres represent the many places I have lived, and the stitches show the invisible currents that connect us all. Very 3 dimensional, copper and gold wire stitches, felt and beads are the “bubbles”.

Smith - UntitledUntitled
Bonnie J. Smith

This untitled work is a continuation of a study I have created to control the viewer with color and design. High contrast fabrics appliquéd onto black background.

Themel - Still LIfe, PearsStill LIfe, Pears
Kate Themel

Inspired by a photo of fresh pears, this still life is made entirely with fabric and thread.  It’s densely quilted; the background flower wallpaper and countertop tiles were “drawn” with free motion quilt stitching.
