Jack in the Pulpit
Frieda Anderson
Every day, I walk my dog in a little 22 acre woods near my home. Jack in the Pulpits pop up in the late spring and I make a game of hunting them out in their hiding places. The “jack” and background light rectangle are satin charmeuse, the blue background is batik.
Centrifugal Force
Sue Bleiweiss
Magenta, turquoise, and dark blue batiks appliquéd to black background. Displayed on point.
Goldfinch Buffet
Kathie Briggs
The composition is based on a photograph I took last summer. It is pieced and then appliquéd and machine stitched.
Black-eyed Susan
Dawn Browning
A study of light and shadow, this quilt was inspired by a photo I took of a field filled with Black-eyed Susans last summer in Mt. Calm, TX. Embellished with small glass beads and pearls, center of flower is three-dimensional. A very textural piece.
Paisleyfish
Tanya Brown
The piece provides a glimpse of that little-known denizen of the deep, the paisleyfish. The artist's preoccupation with paisley–shaped fish is a result of childhood trauma induced by wearing garish hand-me-down clothes from the 1960's. Heavily stitched, whimsical, bright.
Blustery Day
Shelley Brucar
Blustery Day was created after watching leaves floating on water. The gusty winds transformed what is usually a very tranquil scene into bustle and excitement. Rich blues/greens/oranges. Hand-dyed/painted.
Puzzle
Leslie Carabas
This is a collage of cotton, velvets, and metallic fabrics with cotton threads. It is machine appliquéd and free-form machine quilted.
Water-shed
Eileen Doughty
Access to clean water is expected to become one of the critical issues of this century, even more important than access to energy resources. This piece is a statement on impermeable surfaces and the loss of rainwater to the natural water cycle. Cotton fabric, netting, satin stitched and machine quilted.
Vertebrae
Clairan Ferrono
Vertebrae is part of the Windows into Time series. It is shiboried, reverse appliquéd, hand stitched, and machine quilted.
Three Gentoos
Patricia Gould
Inspired by a photo I took in Antarctica. Whole-cloth painted with oil sticks and acrylic paints on jacquard
Interface
Ruby Horansky
Interface is one in a series using plaids and checks to suggest the illusion of transparency, how the strips change as they overlap one another.
Levels
Joe Horansky
Levels is a study in my new direction of architectural design in quilting. Batiks, pieced.
Overlapping Colors
Gwen Jones
Overlapping Colors is like music for the eyes. It is intended to be enjoyed by the viewers. 3D – layer upon layer of batik and other cottons, gold mesh.
Red Dot
Phillipa K. Lack
Black & white bold design with large red dot made from crinkled slinky fabric.
Heat-wave
Carol Larson
Take one scorching summer and add one chile relleño. Whatever was I thinking? Painted and stitched cotton.
Medicine Buddha Shrine
Terrie Hancock Mangat
Medicine Buddha is the one to go to for health help. This little shrine has acrylic painted and hand embroidered little candles, a piece of blackboard fabric for special intentions, and special embellishing rosettes brought by Terrie from India last April. The medicine Buddha fabric was designed by Terrie for Free Spirit, and this quilt is machine quilted by Nicole Dunn.
Love is the Answer
Therese May
Love is the Answer is 5th in my series of 50 art quilts, “Abundance Quilts”. They are all similar, and I am naming each one with a familiar comforting or inspiring saying such as in the case of the first in the series, Healthy, Wealthy, Wise. Fabric, acrylic paint, yo-yos, embellishments, machine quilted.
Autumn Pastels
Denise Oyama Miller
This quilt was made with an impressionistic technique using small pieces of fabric for the color and extensive machine quilting to create the form of the tree.
Goldenrod Galls 5
BJ Parady
This piece is part of a series about the loss of prairie in the “prairie state”, Illinois. It is hand-dyed & discharged silk. Very rich, yet subdued color and light.
The Purple Branch
Christine Predd
Satin stitched branch on painted background with leaf background patterns, free-motion quilted.
Under the Oaks
Nancy Ryan
This impressionistic piece is made with chopped and sliced pieces of material that is sprinkled on top of batting to create the design. It is then covered with black netting and heavily machine quilted with specialty threads.
Transfer Points
Sandra Sider
This piece reflects confusion resulting from trying to transfer frequent flyer points, and the occasional turmoil of trying to locate transfer points in foreign airports. Purple crosses are Dupioni silk, sequins stitched on.
Time for Tea
Terry Stegmiller
I created this quilt using my mosaic collage technique. Commercial cottons, MistyFuse, free-motion quilted. Edges are finished with a couched novelty fiber.
Journey
Judy Warner
Design inspired from memories of women dressed in many colors on roads in southwestern India. Machine quilting and embellishment. 100 % cotton.
Swine Flu Garden
Carol Ann Waugh
The “flowers” are microscopic photos of the actual virus! Vibrant green and soft peach – very textural.
Split Personality
Anita Welty
Some time ago, a friend of mine fell into a deep depression. She ended up as a totally split personality.
Hand-dyed and hand-painted cottons
Voice
Linda Wyatt
The background is made from painted, recycled tyvek shipping bags and
the center from printable cotton. Machine quilted.
