Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question that isn't addressed here, please use our contact form and we'll do our best to help.
Welcome! You will receive an email as soon as your application is processed. The email includes your username, password and links to SAQA-U and other notable parts of our website. We want new members to be able to access our wealth of online resources as soon as possible. A packet containing more information, and the latest Journal issue, will be mailed to your postal address.
A membership card is part of the welcome packet. Members may print out a new card when they renew, if they need one (local fabric stores may accept it for guild discounts), as we don't automatically send them out. The card is available as a PDF in the members-only section, on the "downloads" page.
The Members Home log-in page (Membership > Members Home) has a link to have it emailed to you.
You may view the date on which your membership expires by looking at the membership renewal form (Membership > Renew Your Membership)
Since we are a large international organization, we have divided our membership into geographical regions. See the list of regional representatives and their regions (About SAQA > Regional Representatives). The state or country in a member's account places her or him automatically into a region. An added benefit for members who live near the boundary of a region, or travel regularly between two regions, is to choose a second "state" in their account, in order to be informed of events happening there. This choice is part of the application form, and members may choose or change it at any time in their account.
We prefer that you do this yourself, by logging in to your account, where you may update any of your contact information. (Membership > For Current Members > Manage Your Account). It may take a couple of weeks before your new email makes it into the mailing list we use, so you may still receive email from us at your old address for a short time.
If you are a member of the SAQA Yahoo discussion list, you will have to go to Yahoo to change that. It is not part of the SAQA website or membership database.
It is important to keep your email address current, because so much information is sent via email.
This group is only for SAQA members, and is private to the outside world. You can join by requesting membership at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SAQA/join You will also need to have a Yahoo membership. Once you've clicked on this link and logged in, you will see instructions for joining our group. Please include your full name with your request, so we can verify that you are a member.
See Guidelines for Becoming a PAM (Membership > For Current Members > Guidelines for Becoming a PAM)
Log in to your account. The PAM images are at the bottom of the page. (Membership > For Current Members > PAMs: change your gallery images)
Our membership directory is available in the password-protected part of our website (Membership > For Current Members > Membership Directory). You may search for other members in your SAQA region or state, or search for individuals by name or email address. Membership directories for each region are linked on the region pages in SAQA-U.
The e.Bulletin, sent monthly to all SAQA members, contains information of interest specifically for our members. The Art Quilt News is sent weekly to anyone who opts to receive it. If you would like to receive Art Quilt News, sign up on the bottom left corner of SAQA's home page: http://www.saqa.com/ If you are a SAQA member, Constant Contact will tell you that you are already signed up for the e.Bulletin; indicate that you wish to update your profile and you'll be sent instructions that will allow you to sign up for Art Quilt News as well.
SAQA defines an art quilt as "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure."
Information for SAQA exhibitions are on the members-only Exhibitions and Conferences page (Membership > For New Members > Exhibitions and Conferences). This is where members can always find the prospectus/entry forms for our exhibitions. General information about SAQA and non-SAQA calls are on the public Calls for Entry page (News & Events > Calls for Entry)
We are happy to list such information. For events, use the form linked at the top of our Calendar page to submit your information (News & Events > Calendar). Calls for Entry also has a form to submit your information (News & Events > Calls for Entry)
SAQA lists information about permanent installations of art quilts in an online registry (Information > Where to See Art Quilts > Art in Public Places). You may use this form to submit such information.
